Australia

Australia is a big country, so for my first trip there, I booked a 1-month holiday. Of course, I had to make choices, because 1 month is still way too short to visit all the beautiful places the country offers. I decided to go to Sydney, because two of my friends were there ; the Red Center, because the idea of the red desert fascinated me ; Melbourne, because people told me it was incredible ; and Cairns, because of the Great Barrier Reef and the rainforest. That was in January 2017, and the weather was pretty hot.

I loved Sydney, because it’s easy to move around, there’s everything (the city, the parks, the seaside, the coastal walk, the zoo, cute shops and nice restaurants), and because my friends were there.

I adored the Red Center. I had booked a three day hiking tour with Emu Run, and it was incredible. Sleeping in the desert, waking up at 4 AM to do a hike in Kings Canyon before the heat, walking next to Uluru, learning about the Aboriginal Dreamtime stories… I was exhausted and always sweating and eating kamikaze flies, but I simply loved it!

I actually didn’t like so much Melbourne, because it was less easy to find my way than in Sydney, my hostel was a bit far from the center, and I felt pretty alone… Until I met a great Australian from Sydney who was on vacation.

I really liked Cairns and its rainforest. I got pretty sick on the boat to the Great Barrier Reef, so it was less dreamy than planned, but I still had a great time. I did amazing tours while in Cairns, including the rainforest, dangerous beaches (with crocodiles and jellyfishes), waterfalls, and huge flying foxes.

I went back to Australia at the end of 2018, but it was mostly to visit my friends, as part of my trip around the world, so I only went back to Sydney.
