I visited Iceland twice: once during Winter, once during Summer. During my second visit, my friend and I decided to spend one day on the Westman Islands.
Seasons in Iceland
Iceland is as beautiful in Winter as in Summer. Both seasons have their perks, like the Northern lights during Winter and the endless days during Summer, and the weather is pretty much unpredictable all the time (from what I have experienced).
In Summer, I really enjoyed the long days. It felt so strange and wonderful to start a hike at 7pm and come back to the campsite hours later and still have daylight and hear the birds sing.
The Westman Islands
My friend and I had planned to spend a day on the Westman Islands. On that morning, we took our time to visit some places before taking the ferry… And we ended up missing a tour we had booked but not paid.
We thought we would just take the ferry to the island, but those only run a few times per day, and we missed the one we should have taken.
So we improvised, we cancelled the tour, waited for the next ferry and stopped at a tourist information point when we arrived. We found a map and hiked by ourselves on a volcano. It was windy and rainy, but once at the top, the sun came out and the view was worth all the efforts.
Puffins (Or Nothing)
We also tried to watch the puffins, but there were nowhere to be seen on that day. We still really liked the walk, because the island is very peaceful and beautiful. I think that if I had to do it again, maybe I would book a night there.
