Czech Republic is a beautiful country. And I’m not just talking about Prague. There are many other cities worth a visit, and one of my favourite is Český Krumlov (pronounce “Tsheskee Krumlof”). I spent 2 nights there in April 2016 and loved it!
Český Krumlov: A Medieval Town
It’s a small medieval town, it felt really safe and it’s easy to visit it by feet. Its historical center is UNESCO classified, and for good reason. Every little street is simply too charming! I did the walking tour called “Wiseman Free Tour”, and I really enjoyed it (partly because the guide, Jan, was surprised that I was French because “I didn’t have a French accent”, partly because the tour was very interesting and fun). It was a great way to get some useful and intriguing information about the town and its history. Also, it’s a good time to ask about the best places where you can eat and go out.
Krcma Marketa
Personally, my favourite was a restaurant by the castle called Krcma Marketa. It felt like stepping in another century. The decorations were medieval, the employees were wearing medieval clothes, and there were chimneys. As it had started to snow, I felt like I had found some sort of safe haven. The food too didn’t disappoint. I had chicken filled with bacon and cheese and grilled vegetables. I was next to a chimney and had a candle as a light on my table.
Honey Cake And Other Delicacies
There are several other bars and restaurants with a nice atmosphere, and good food and drinks. Also, you can taste several specialties from Czech Republic or from Český Krumlov, like the honey cake or the Krumlov cookies. I must admit I was not impressed by the sweets, and preferred the main dishes.
A Bright Castle
The castle is very colourful and shows different architectural styles as it was not built in one time. It offers a great view of the town and includes a huge garden. I cannot say much about it, because the weather was too cold to really enjoy it and because it was too early in the year to see all the flowers, but I still went for a short walk and had a nice time there.
