Montmartre’s Street Art

Street Art T'es Belle
T’es belle (You’re beautiful)

If you are visiting Paris and, like me, you enjoy chasing the street art, I recommend going to Montmartre.

Art Is Part Of Montmartre…

This district is well known for its artistic history. In the 19th century, it was the home of many artists, and quite a few of them are now renowned. Among the names associated to Montmartre, there are Vincent Van Gogh (there was actually a street exhibition about his life and work there), Pablo Picasso, Amedeo Modigliani, Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas, and a character that got famous also thanks to the movie Moulin Rouge, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.

… But So Is Tourism

Art is still a very big part of Montmartre and of the tourism marketing. The Place du Tertre is a “must-go” in the district. You can go to a restaurant or a bar there and watch the artists paint or draw the tourists. It’s kind of cute, but I feel like it’s overrated and has really become a tourist trap.

Some Kind Of Treasure Hunt

However, if you feel like something less crowded and if you’re into street art, Montmartre is the perfect place for you. Street art is everywhere and it is really fun to look for it, to try to identify the artists, and to find the different pieces of art made by the same artist. Also, it gives you an excuse to stroll in the beautiful streets of Montmartre, that resembles a little village. Only one warning: prepare good shoes, as Montmartre is located on a hill, and it goes up and down, up and down.

London Frenchy

My name is Coline, and I’m French. I come from a not so small, but not so big city in France, and I have lived in various countries and cities. I stayed for 3 years in London (UK), for 3 months in Vicenza, for 6 months in Reggio Emilia and for 6 months Bologna (Italy). I also spent 3 months in Bilbao and 4 months in Alicante (Spain). Right now, I’m back in France, near Lyon and I work as a web editor.
