The second time I visited Czech Republic, Kutnà Hora captured my interest with its mysterious ossuary. It is a chapel that is entirely decorated with bones (from more than 40.000 human skeletons!) and with peculiar elements, such as angels. The effect is quite special.
One Of A Kind
Whether you like it or not, you can’t remain unimpressed by the big chandeliers or by the coat of arms… all made of bones. It is actually one of the most visited attractions in Czech Republic. If you want to know more about it, here is its website.
Different Styles Of Churches In Kutnà Hora
It is not too scary, but it depends on your tastes. However, if you feel like something different, Kutnà Hora has other things to offer. For example, the city has two impressive churches less frightening: St. Barbara’s Church and Church of the Assumption of Our Lady and Saint John the Baptist. I particularly liked the outside shape of St. Barbara’s Church as well as its inside decorations and paintings. It was built in a cathedral style, and that’s why it is sometimes called Saint Barbara’s Cathedral.
The Foody Corner
And as in many Czech cities, I ate really well. Like in Český Krumlov, the theme of the restaurant was medieval. It was recommended to me by the tourist office, and I wasn’t disappointed. At all. To eat a delicious meal in Kutnà Hora, go to the Dačický restaurant.
To sum it all up, Kutnà Hora is perfect for a day trip from Prague, if you want to see something different and escape the crowds a little bit. I really recommend checking other cities than Prague. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the capital, but it’s nice to learn a little bit more about the Czech culture (if you have the time, of course).
