3 Reasons Why You Should Visit Liechtenstein

First, why not? In Europe, there are a lot of cool countries easily accessible. Sure, Liechtenstein is a bit tricky because, being so small, it doesn’t have an airport. But you can fly to Zurich, Switzerland, or to Austria and take public transport (or a rented car) to Liechtenstein. So, here are 3 reasons why you should visit Liechtenstein (even if you still can’t write or pronounce it correctly).

How Often Can You Visit A Whole Country In Just A Few Days?

Liechtenstein is tiny! With a surface area of 160.5 km², you can easily visit the whole country in a week or less, depending on the activities that you plan on doing.

If you like hiking, there’s what’s called the Liechtenstein trail, a 75 km path that allows you to walk through all 11 of the country’s municipalities. You can also cycle around the country and stop whenever you feel like. Because the country doesn’t have many tourists and has a small population, there’s not too much traffic.

If you rent a car or use public transportation, you can also visit the country without any trouble. For example, you can use all the buses (that are very frequent) with a 9 CHF ticket. You can buy your ticket directly on the bus, drivers speak good English. In German, it’s called “TAGESKARTE” (daily ticket) and is for “Alle Zonen” (all areas).

Hike Or Ski In Liechtenstein’s Incredible Mountains

Being so close to Switzerland, Liechtenstein’s mountains might remind you of its neighbor’s mountains, but they are special in their own way. I found them magnificent, not at all spoiled by tourism.

April might not have been the best season in the sense that it was less touristy, but I liked it. It’s just that the hiking paths were less easy to find. Apparently, the best season to enjoy ski or hiking activities are Winter and Summer ( for example in Malbun). It’s quite famous and the trails are well marked.

I liked Liechtenstein during Spring, because nature is protected and there are so many trees and flowers. It truly felt magical in the morning. However, I was lucky. On my last days, the weather was foggy and rainy, so maybe, to be on the safe side, visit Liechtenstein during Summer. Also, warning: during Spring, there is a lot of pollen and I had a strong allergic reaction to something.

Take A Breath In A Country That Is Not Crowded With Tourists

My life has been pretty hectic these last few months, and being able to hear the bird, to breathe some fresh air and to gaze at the mountains was just what I needed.

If you feel like taking a break from the crowds and the cities’ noises, Liechtenstein’s peaceful nature might be just what you need.

Practical Information To Reach Lichtenstein

The easiest way to reach Liechtenstein is to fly to Zurich (about 100 km from Vaduz, the capital), and then take a train and a bus. You can use the Swiss rail services to book your trip.

The country uses the Swiss currency: CHF.

The best and cheapest place to stay is, in my opinion, Triesenberg.

London Frenchy

My name is Coline, and I’m French. I come from a not so small, but not so big city in France, and I have lived in various countries and cities. I stayed for 3 years in London (UK), for 3 months in Vicenza, for 6 months in Reggio Emilia and for 6 months Bologna (Italy). I also spent 3 months in Bilbao and 4 months in Alicante (Spain). Right now, I’m back in France, near Lyon and I work as a web editor.
