Croatia (3): A New Tradition In Dubrovnik!

Last stop: Dubrovnik! I wasn’t ready to see this trip end… Croatia had me feeling amazing and ready to conquer the world. Beautiful people from all over the world, stunning parks, ancient cities full of history, great food and drinks, nice locals… Wow!

Eating In A Luxurious Restaurant in Dubrovnik

On my first day in Dubrovnik, I did a walking tour and met two girls who were old friends. One was Turkish, but living in France, and the other one was Indian. They invited me to join them to a restaurant that they had booked, and I accepted!

Once I was in the restaurant, I regretted having accepted so fast… The prices were incredibly high! I think the Indian girl who had booked had no idea that it was way too expensive for me and, more importantly, for her friend. We shared two mains in order to spend less. I got the impression that I had eaten next to nothing, but still paid more than 30 euros.

A Must-Do In Dubrovnik: The GOT Tour

Like many people, I was really into Game of Thrones at the time and I wouldn’t miss the opportunity of doing a GOT tour in Dubrovnik (also known as King’s Landing) for the world. The tour was pretty cool and I met a Canadian girl, Marie, from Quebec.

I had recognized her because she was in my hostel and had arrived just before me on Sunday. We spent the tour together before heading to the fountain where I was supposed to meet Ekta, who had arrived in Dubrovnik too.

Meeting Again In Dubrovnik

Ekta was not at the meeting point, so Marie and I decided to eat some pizza together. We were talking at a table when I saw Anita walking by. Fate, I guess! She joined us. Thanks to the Wi-Fi, I sent our location to Ekta, and she finally joined us too.

Anita and Ekta left us to do the GOT tour. Marie and I went for a walk to the Belvedere, a giant hotel located on a cliff from where you have panoramic views of the city. In the end, we didn’t actually go there, because we kept stopping on the way to sunbathe, talk and take pictures. Holidays!

We’re Going To Need A Bigger Table!

Marie and I came back to the hostel. I asked Caitlyn, the American girl in my dorm if she wanted to join us for dinner. There was also an American guy, Torin, in the room and he seemed cool so I asked him too and he said yes. The more, the merrier!

When I came downstairs, Marie had found two other girls who wanted to come to the restaurant with us. They stayed at the hostel and changed, while Torin and I went to meet Ekta and Anita. We found them talking with Gerardo, who had traveled on the same bus as Ekta. We invited him as well.

We ended up being 9 at a big table in the restaurant. It was incredible!

Making Friends Through Friends

In Dubrovnik, I also met Ana, a friend of Florence, my friend who lives in Canada. Ana is Croatian and she got Anita and I tickets to take the cable car. That was really cool, the view is great from up there. Ana and one of her friends came with us to the top and we had some drinks and took selfies.

A New Tradition

On Tuesday, I did a day-tour in Montenegro and Anita came as well. The weather was a bit rainy, but we enjoyed the trip. When we came back, we met again at the fountain with Ekta, Torin, Gerardo, Caitlyn. We went to a restaurant and had a few drinks for Ekta’s departure (not that we needed an excuse). It was hard to say goodbye…

Every evening, there were new people invited. People were coming and going, but there was always a group of new friends who were meeting in Dubrovnik. Traveling alone, but never being lonely: that’s the memory I kept of Croatia.

I took the same bus as Anita and, at the airport, we bought some rakia and had a quick meal before saying goodbye. What a trip!

London Frenchy

My name is Coline, and I’m French. I come from a not so small, but not so big city in France, and I have lived in various countries and cities. I stayed for 3 years in London (UK), for 3 months in Vicenza, for 6 months in Reggio Emilia and for 6 months Bologna (Italy). I also spent 3 months in Bilbao and 4 months in Alicante (Spain). Right now, I’m back in France, near Lyon and I work as a web editor.
