After falling in love with Morocco, I felt inspired to explore more of Africa. So in April 2026, I decided to head to Tunisia.
Not gonna lie: this trip came with a fair share of nerves. Traveling solo as a woman, I had some real concerns about safety on the ground. But I’m really glad I went ahead with it.
Tunisia turned out to be a fascinating blend of cultures and extraordinary places. I let my imagination run wild at the ruins of Carthage, picturing the mighty civilization that once stood there. The Bardo Museum was quite something! The size and the number of mosaics is so impressive, and the site itself (a former palace) is stunning! And the relaxed, sun-soaked charm of Sidi Bou Saïd was absolutely dreamy.
The trip also brought some incredible historical highlights. I got to step inside the Great Mosque of Kairouan, the oldest mosque in North Africa. The Roman amphitheater of El Jem impressed me deeply with its stunning architecture, and in Monastir, I visited the ribat, the oldest and most significant fortified monastery in the Maghreb.
I’m not sure Tunisia will make it back onto my travel radar anytime soon, but this trip was rich in culture, steeped in history, and with perfect weather to top it all off.
