A Hike In Plitvice

In May 2016, I visited Croatia. I started in Zagreb, then went down to Split and to Dubrovnik. This was one of the happiest trips I did. I literally met amazingly nice people in each city, and even sometimes met them in different cities, as pretty much everybody is following the same itinerary.

Why I Wanted To Go To Plitvice

While in Split, I went to the Plitvice Lakes National Park. My mother had been there a few years before and had sent me a postcard. It looked so incredible and she had loved it so much that I decided I would go. It is one of the oldest and largest national parks in Croatia, and it’s part of the UNESCO World Heritage. I also visited Krka that is smaller.

A Relaxing Visit

I was alone for most of the time I spent in the park, so my memories of it are more sensations. On the day that I went, some parts of the park were flooded, there had been some heavy rains, and some paths were not accessible. But the park is huge, and I had only one afternoon to visit it, so I had plenty to see and experience.

I started at the top of the park and went progressively down. It was very impressive to start this way, because I saw the whole park and the waterfalls from above. This is truly a wonderful place.

Different Atmospheres In One Park

I hiked in the wooded area under the shades of the trees, along a few small waterfalls. Then, I walked on wooden paths on the lakes. It was like an adventure (with tourists). Because I was alone, I could take all the time I wanted (or needed) to look at the beauty of every place I went through and to take picture. I really appreciated not having to follow a guide. I only had to return to the entrance at a certain time to go back to Split.

London Frenchy

My name is Coline, and I’m French. I come from a not so small, but not so big city in France, and I have lived in various countries and cities. I stayed for 3 years in London (UK), for 3 months in Vicenza, for 6 months in Reggio Emilia and for 6 months Bologna (Italy). I also spent 3 months in Bilbao and 4 months in Alicante (Spain). Right now, I’m back in France, near Lyon and I work as a web editor.
