2026: Moving Forward

I’m not going to lie: 2025 has been rough. I kept telling myself it would get better as the months passed, but it never really did. But, maybe, 2026 will be different.

2025: Between Gratitude And Exhaustion

2025 wasn’t all bad, far from it. I’m lucky to have an amazing circle of friends, a fluffy and overly clingy cat, and memories from some beautiful trips: German Switzerland, Liechtenstein, London, Andorra, the French Alps, and Morocco.

Still, the year has been tiring, exhausting, actually.

Last year, I said I didn’t want to make New Year’s resolutions. This time, though, I feel differently. In 2026, I want to put myself first. I want to listen more carefully to my body and my mind, instead of pushing through everything on autopilot. Last year, I said, I wanted to do less, but it didn’t really work out.

Kindness As A 2026 Resolution

The world feels particularly chaotic right now, and more than ever, kindness matters. Kindness toward others, but also toward ourselves. Tell that girl you like her socks. Tell that guy his shoes look great. Tell the people you love that you love them, even if it’s not a habit in your family and it feels awkward at first. And maybe most importantly, stop replaying every small mistake in your head and convincing yourself you said or did something stupid.

I’m currently reading You Do You” by Sarah Knight, who also wrote the awesome book “The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F**k”. And she says that there’s nothing wrong with you. As she puts it, we should “celebrate what it means to be you – in all your weird, difficult, selfish, imperfect, antisocial, overexcited, unique, and unconventional ways. Let’s harness those “flaws” and turn them into strengths. […] Come on, let’s do you!”

And she’s right.

Making Space For Who We Really Are

Society constantly tells us who we should be and how we should fit into a predefined mold. Yet, what makes someone interesting, or even competent at work, is often their specific traits. Maybe you’re a bit weird. That’s probably why your friends like you in the first place, and let’s be honest, they’re a bit weird too. Maybe you’re emotional and deeply empathetic. That sensitivity might be exactly what allows you to connect with people and do your job better.

Imagine how dull life would be if everyone were the same!

So in 2026, let’s choose kindness. Let’s allow ourselves to be who we are. Let’s breathe in, breathe out, and stop being afraid of being “too much.”

My name is Coline, and I’m French. I come from a not so small, but not so big city in France, and I have lived in various countries and cities. I stayed for 3 years in London (UK), for 3 months in Vicenza, for 6 months in Reggio Emilia and for 6 months Bologna (Italy). I also spent 3 months in Bilbao and 4 months in Alicante (Spain). Right now, I’m back in France.
