For various reasons, it took me a while to decide to go to Turkey. That means that I had plenty of time to do my researches about the cities and regions I wanted to visit. I had to forget (for now) about some places that looked incredible, like Mount Nemrut (too far from my other destinations, yes, Turkey is a big country), and some other places my friend recommended, like Adana (too far again). I had great expectations regarding the Blue Mosque, Pamukkale, and Cappadocia. Cappadocia felt like an adventure, and it was even more exciting because I was going to be with two wonderful Turkish girls.
Watching The Balloons Of Cappadocia
One of the most popular attractions in Cappadocia is the balloon trip, so of course, it was on my to-do list. My friends were there only for the weekend and didn’t have a big budget, so they couldn’t afford the trip.
But there is something else we wanted to do: watch the balloons fly. During the Green tour (there are several tours you can do to visit the region, and this is the best one), we met a French girl, and she told us that she was staying in a hotel where there was a great view. We were in a hostel (in Göreme) close to hers, so we woke up at 4.30 am and walked there. And the view was indeed wonderful, despite a bit of fog.
I recommend watching the balloons in the morning as well as flying in one. It’s a different experience (and it’s free!).
A Balloon Trip In Cappadocia
On the day after, when my friends were back in Ankara, I did the balloon trip in the morning. Departure at 4am. I’ll admit that it stings, but it’s totally worth it, because you can see the sun rise.
I had already been in a hot air balloon in Australia, but the view was not as magical as the one in Cappadocia. This is a whole other level of wonder!
After the trip, they brought us back to our respective hostels/hotels, and I went back to bed, to get some rest.
