After visiting Liechtenstein and before heading back to France via Zürich, I set off to discover Lucerne. This picturesque city is nestled in the heart of Switzerland and is truly beautiful. With its crystal-clear lake and majestic mountains as a backdrop, the city offers an unforgettable experience!

Two Wooden Bridges And A Decorated Iron Bridge
I arrived in Lucerne by train, dropped my bag at the hostel, and went straight to see the Kapellbrücke, a 14th-century wooden bridge.
This historic bridge, crossing the Reuss River, is adorned with beautiful paintings depicting scenes from the city. Unfortunately, a fire in 1993 damaged some of these works, but the bridge remains an extraordinary place worth visiting (and it’s located right in the heart of the city). This bridge is also one of the oldest and longest covered wooden bridges in Europe.
A little further on, you’ll find another wooden bridge, the Spreuerbrücke, and also a beautifully decorated iron bridge, both adding to the charm of the area.

A Stroll Through The Streets Of Lucerne
Walking through the streets of Lucerne is like stepping into a fairy tale!
The houses with painted facades, adorned with motifs and frescoes, and the sculptures on the fountains reminded me of Venice. Every turn reveals new paintings and new wonders. I wanted to head towards the castle, but I couldn’t stop being amazed by every street. You can explore and relax for hours in the heart of Lucerne.
A special mention to the Lion Monument: this sculpture is extraordinary. Beautiful, peaceful and sad, it commemorates the Swiss Guards who were killed during the French Revolution.

The Castle Ramparts
During my visit to Lucerne, I took the time to explore the castle ramparts, a medieval fortification that offers breathtaking views of the city and its surroundings. However, beware of the narrow and steep stairs: they’ll give you a cardio workout!
There are several towers to visit, but some are quite similar. If you see two and run out of energy, save yourself and either continue along the ramparts or head back down towards the city.
The best part? The entry is free!

A Typical Swiss Lake
While the streets of Lucerne reminded me of Venice, its lake looked a lot like the one in Geneva. It was very pleasant to stroll along the quays. The lake, surrounded by Swiss mountains and bordered by gardens or trees, offers a spectacular view.

I Tried A Japanese Capsule Hotel!
One of the most unique experiences of my stay in Lucerne was my choice of accommodation: a capsule hotel just like in Japan.
My room was inspired by the world of Peter Pan, and my capsule was a cozy little bubble. Although the size of the capsules initially concerned me, I didn’t feel cramped at all. The space was surprisingly spacious, very clean, and well-equipped with adjustable tactile lighting, electrical outlets, and effective ventilation. The mattress was more comfortable than the ones I had in other hostels.
So, for me, this is a hotel option worth recommending: excellent value for money for a pleasant and affordable stay. Plus, the bathroom was extraordinary, and there was a restaurant with breakfast and meals available for other times of the day. I highly recommend this unique experience for those seeking practical and modern accommodation in Lucerne!
